Endoxifen, a mixture of E and Z isomers with the CAS number 112093-28-4, is a metabolite of the non-steroidal selective estrogen receptor modulator tamoxifen. It is primarily responsible for the anti-estrogenic effects of tamoxifen, which is widely used in the treatment and prevention of breast cancer. The E and Z isomers of endoxifen have been shown to exhibit different pharmacological properties, with the Z isomer being more potent in inhibiting the growth of estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer cells. The mixture of E and Z isomers of endoxifen has been found to have a higher affinity for estrogen receptors than tamoxifen itself, which contributes to its increased efficacy in suppressing tumor growth. As a result, endoxifen has been identified as a key active metabolite of tamoxifen, playing a crucial role in its therapeutic effects.
